My Support

You support my heavy limbs, to reach my full potential

my arms pinned back awaiting your collection

my fruit dipped into shade for taste perfection

Although I am grounded and rooted, I aspire to height

against gravity, my toil, my fight

and much to nature’s calculated malay,

I succeed thanks, to my espalier.

Shame

I don’t like what its done to me

the comments made are derogatory

my anxiety has been set free.

The cold air serves as a reminder

I should have listened to my advisor

that it’s not good to be a miser.

Show the world that you care

think of the children that you could scare

Don’t attempt to cut your own hair.

Boat cake for Sue

Before you set sail on the sea

with some testing company

we wanted to make sure your day was grand

as its your last birthday on land.

Having a birthday cake at sea

will be very tricky.

We imagine birthday candles on a boat

would challenge its status ‘as afloat’.

So next years birthday cake will be dark,

no flicker or spark.

It could be a poorly shaped cake

or a marzipan covered box fake.

Regardless, it’s the company you keep

not what cake you can eat.

So a happy birthday friend Sue.

A happy day of birth to you.

The Penalty

The corner kick was a right left bender

I was on the goal line as right back defender

the ball landed at their strikers feet

he took a shot that would be hard to beat.

Except, it hit me square on the chest

I proceeded to block it and do my best

but an autoresponse meant I caught the ball

everyone laughed and the ref made a call.

A penalty awarded, our lead had been thrown,

the same striker stepped up, to drive the ball home.

On his run up he slipped and barely touched the ball

our goalie collected and shouted a  “forward” call.

But we all stood still laughing, as they still had zero,

I was relieved, transformed from villian to hero.
